Labyrinthine Caeruleum ll
Kiln-formed glass mounted on board 32cm H x 32cm D x 2cm D
Rita uses movement and mark making within glass to create abstract representations of our planet’s immense geological forces. She utilises innovative and contemporary techniques to manipulate glass to mimic the various methods of sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rock formation. She aims to highlight the ancientness of the earth, thus reminding us of our insignificance in the face of immense and ongoing metamorphism of the world.
Since graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Visual Art (Glass) in 2019 from UniSA, Rita has been awarded the UniSA Pro Vice Chancellor’s Acquisition Prize, the Indoor Sculpture Prize at the 2019 Clare Valley Art Show and inaugural Relief/Wall Hanging Prize in the 2020 Brighton Jetty Sculptures. Her work has also been purchased by a private collector from the Friends of the Corning Glass Museum, New York and her recent work Labyrinthine Vlll is on show now in the 2020 National Emerging Art Prize at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
